How to Enroll in a New Orleans Public School for the First Time

If you are new to New Orleans and don’t yet have a placement for the current, 2016-2017 School Year, here’s how you enroll:

Visit one of our three Family Resource Centers. These are the documents you need to bring to if your child is entering a grade K-12:

  • Parent photo ID
  • Proof of Orleans residency
  • Last report card
  • Birth certificate (if your child is going into Kindergarten)

These are documents you need to bring to the Family Resource Center if your child is entering an Early Childhood program (ages 6 weeks to 4 years old):

  • Parent photo ID
  • 2 Proofs of Orleans residency
  • Birth certificate
  • Proof of income* for all members of the household contributing to the household income. For example, last 4 consecutive paychecks, or a letter from your employer indicating:

    2) Your hourly rate of pay
    3) Average hours worked a week

*There are many types of proof of income. Please click here for a detailed list of what is acceptable proof of income.
